Hairstyles for various faceshapes

Hairstyles for various face shapes

There are 6 basic faceshapes & heres some basic tips on choosing the right hairstyle for your faceshape to enhance your image.

1.     Oval shape: Length of face is 1.5 times its width and forehead is slightly wider than the chin.
-       Cut more layers at the ear and cheekbones to make the cheekbones appear wider and face more oval.
-       Avoid haircuts with layers stopping at chin length

2.     Round shape: Prominent chubby cheeks with equal length and width of the face.
-layered bangs as opposed to straight and heavy ones
- short hairstyles which give height
- opt for styles which provide length
-Do face framing by creating more layers closer to your face to create a slimming effect.

3.     Square shape: Prominent jaw & square chin. Forehead and jaw lines are approximately the same width
-       Long loose waves
-       Soft layered bob
-       Sideswept bangs that are just below the brow length

4.     Oblong shape: Longer than oval shape with a pointy chin
-       create volume at the center of the face by cutting layers at the ear and cheekbones to make cheekbones appear wider and face more oval.
-       Gentle side swept bangs
-       Avoid bob cuts or hairstyles above the chin.

5.     Heart shape: Wide forehead and cheekbones with narrow jaw and pointy chin
-       Bobs are good but avoid those above chin level.
-       Draw attention away from wide forehead and towards the eyes with sideswept, whispy bangs
-       Avoid emphasizing the crown as this can make your face appear top heavy and chin narrower.

6.     Diamond shape: Narrow forehead and jawline with the cheekbones being the widest part of the face.
-       Most hairstyles suit this faceshape.
-       Show off your cheekbones, avoid short bangs, classic bob cut could work as well.

While we often focus on our clothes our skin & our body don’t forget that our hair is equally important in creating our desirable image as it is what frames our face. Therefore knowing what hairstyles suit your individual facetype is definitely useful.
